Members of Lancaster High’s JV and varsity volleyball teams flash a heart symbol of hope as they prepare for their annual Side-Out Foundation “Dig Pink” National Breast Cancer Awareness event. The benefit match will be held on Tuesday, October 16, at LHS.

During October, high school and college teams across the country will promote breast health education in the community as well as raise funds to further research, according to LHS event promoter Cindi Huey.

Lancaster will host the Essex Lady Trojans for the annual “Dig Pink” event. Admission is $5. Proceeds will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation. The JV game begins at 6 p.m. and the varsity will follow. Family members of the LHS players will sell refreshments as part of the fundraising efforts, according to Huey.

Donations are being accepted at LHS during home volleyball games through October 16. Fans will have an opportunity to donate tonight (October 11) when the LHS volleyball teams host Colonial Beach and again the night of the event.

Anyone wishing to make donations of $100 or more will receive recognition in the program for the “Dig Pink” night. Donations may also be made online at www.side-out.org/application/ous/fundraising_page/45541.

“Together we will do much to improve the lives of people who are facing breast cancer,” said Huey.
