Eagles’ defense holds
Devils scoreless, 35-0

Washington & Lee held Lancaster to its lowest offensive output of the season last Friday while racking up 328 yards in a 35-0 shutout of the Red Devils in a Northern Neck District varsity opener.

Eric Mason caught two W&L passes, both for touchdowns, to lead the Eagle offense. Mason had two catches for 96 yards including one of 81 yards from Chris Graham to open the Eagles’ scoring in the first quarter. Mason capped the scoring with a 15-yard reception from Dewayne Cherry in the fourth quarter.

Graham completed 2 of 5 passes for 98 yards with a touchdown and interception. Cherry threw for 33 yards and a score, completing 2 of 2.

Cherry also produced on the ground, rushing for a 31-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Dexter Thompson led the Eagle ground game with 18 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown on a nine-yard run. Kwame Gray had seven carries for 48 yards with a 12-yard scoring run in the second quarter.

Lancaster got 103 yards passing from Kedrick Lee, who completed 12 of 19 passes with two interceptions.

Brian Moody led the Red Devil receivers with 35 yards on three catches and Ricky Gibson had 26 yards on three catches.

On the ground, the Devils were held to 92 yards with TreVaughn Davis gaining 45 yards on 11 carries and Gibson gaining 34 on eight touches.

Washington & Lee improved to 4-2 with a 1-0 start in the district, while Lancaster dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Devils will host Rappahannock (3-3, 1-0) for homecoming Friday, October 12. The Eagles travel to Northumberland (1-5, 0-1).
