Prospective candidates have a month
|to file for May 1 town ballots

LANCASTERMarch 6 is the filing deadline for candidates to appear on ballots in the upcoming town elections on May 1. The voter registration office will remain open until 7 p.m. that day to accommodate filings.

In Kilmarnock, three council seats are up for election for regular four-year terms and one seat is up for the remaining two years of a four-year term.
Council members Rebecca Tebbs Nunn and Mae Umphlett have declared their candidacy for another term. Members Paul Jones and Denis Bouslough are undecided.
In White Stone, four council seats are up for election.
The only council member declaring she will seek another term is Jennifer Hodges. Member David Jones is undecided. Scott Hudson and Tina Davis could not be reached.
In Irvington, the office of mayor and three council seats are up for election.
Mayor Rannie Ransone has indicated he will seek a second term. Council members seeking another term are Gene Edmonds and Ed Sulick. Kathleen Pollard could not be reached.
Prospective candidates are required to submit a certificate of candidate qualification and declaration of candidacy to the Lancaster voter registrar’s office. Candidates must have lived in Virginia for a year immediately preceding the election and also must be residents of the town where the office is sought by the time they file for candidacy.
Prospective candidates may call voter registrar Susan Jett, 462-5277, for candidacy forms.
The deadline to register to vote in the May 1 election is April 9.
