The menu will feature handmade flour tortillas and homemade, fresh churros, as well as a variety of authentic and delicious food and live entertainment.

Mission Caridad and Casa Santa Rita were started as a charitable endeavor by Jenny Stallings Flores of Reedville and Andres Flores of Honduras, said Mei-Li Beane. The purpose is to provide day care to the children of poor working mothers in Comayagua, Honduras.

Casa Santa Rita cares for 10 to 15 children daily, allowing their mothers to work by providing the children with a safe place to play and learn, said Beane. Mission Caridad is saving towards a permanent facility and is beginning a new scholarship program.

Thanks to the generous support the people of the Northern Neck have offered in the past, the Mexican dinner has provided a significant percentage of the funds needed to continue running these programs, she said.

To volunteer to help out with this event, call Jenny Flores at 335-6322, or Susan Stallings at 761-5885. Volunteers are needed to help with the cooking, serving and set-up for the dinner.

The second annual Mission Caridad 5k will be held at 9 a.m. October 27 at Belle Isle State Park. Visit for details.
