Sheriff’s Report

Lancaster County Sheriff Ronnie Crockett this week reported charges against seven individuals.

Robert W. Dawson II, 24, of Callao was charged September 19 with felonious assault and strangle another (both felonies). 

William M. Noel, 26, of Greentown Road was charged September 21 with a felony narcotics violation.


A Harbour View Drive man, 68, was charged September 17 with entering property with the intent to damage and petit larceny.

A Weems man, 43, was charged September 22 with a probation violation.

A Merry Point Road man, 50, was charged September 22 on a Northumberland County charge of assault and battery.

A Rustburg man, 51, was charged September 22 with contempt of a Lancaster County court.

A Currell Cove man, 42, formerly of South Carolina, was charged September 22 with failing to register and complete ASAP classes as ordered by a Hanover County court. 

Activity report

September 17: Staff responded to a bad check complaint in the Bertrand area (civil incident), and to a larceny complaint on Ocran Road. 

September 18:  Staff responded to a possible burglary on Rappahannock Drive (no criminal incident), to a landlord/tenant complaint on Reynolds Farm Road, to a domestic disturbance call on Lara Road, and to By Way Road on a report of severe weather causing downed trees; notified Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) of a downed tree blocking traffic near White Chapel and River roads, and a downed tree blocking the roadway near Conley and Morattico roads; received a walk-in complaint of annoying/obscene telephone calls, and a larceny report from Lancaster High School (cash and checks, $2,466 loss). 

September 19:  Staff received a walk-in complaint of an assault, and from a school bus driver a reckless driving complaint of a motorist failing to stop for the bus while it was discharging children. 

September 20:  Staff responded to a suspicious vehicle fire in the 2500 block of White Chapel Road (2001 Ford truck, $5,000 loss), to a juvenile behavioral complaint on Newtown Road (referral made to juvenile probation officer), to a suspicious person complaint in the Lancaster Shores subdivision, and to a parent’s report of possible narcotics in the possession of a juvenile (suspected drugs seized, referral made to the juvenile probation officer); received a larceny report from Lancaster Drive ($53 loss), a walk-in report of vandalism ($30 loss), and a walk-in complaint that was referred to animal control.  

September 21:    Staff received a motorist’s complaint of a bicyclist interfering with traffic on the Robert O. Norris Jr. bridge (no officer from Lancaster or Middlesex in position to respond); responded to a protective order violation on Weems Road, and to a shots fired complaint in the area of Currells Cove Lane. 

September 22:  Staff responded to a suspicious person complaint on Merry Point Road, to a domestic disturbance on Bald Eagle Road,with Virginia State Police (VSP) to a three-vehicle traffic crash near Jessie duPont Highway and Morattico Church Road, to Harris Road to assist Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD) with two suspicious persons (no criminal incident), and to a domestic disturbance in the 13200 block of Mary Ball Road. 

September 23:  Staff responded to a disturbance call in the 8600 block of Mary Ball Road; received a larceny report from Taylors Creek Road (push mower, $300 loss), and a walk-in report of a larceny from a White Stone residence ($12,000 cash); and recovered a safe from the woods on Greentown Road. 

September 24:  Staff responded to a prowler complaint on Holly Haven Road; and received a complaint of a low-flying helicopter in the area of the 4000 block of Morattico Road.

Staff also conducted seven traffic stops, issued one summons, assisted five motorists, reported two deer strikes, handled one call for traffic control, investigated six building alarms, logged three inmate transports, and fielded two calls for animal control service.

Fire calls

Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department assisted Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on Buzzards Neck Road and responded to a vehicle fire in the 2500 block of White Chapel Road.

Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department responded to a power line fire on Bluff Point Road, a traffic crash at Jessie duPont Highway and Morattico Church Road and a traffic crash on Bluff Point Road.

White Stone Volunteer Fire Department assisted EMS on James Wharf Road.
