This season’s program topic is Russia and the evening’s speaker will be Russian priest Father Michael Meerson, said Corinne Anthony of St. Stephen’s.

Born in Russia during the Communist regime, Fr. Meerson came to reject the principles of Communism as he grew up. He fled Russia to avoid imprisonment and immigrated to America.

In 1978, he graduated from St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y. In 1984, he became the parish rector of Christ the Savior Orthodox Church in New York City. That church is part of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) Diocese of New York and New Jersey.

An author and scholar, Father Michael Meerson will share his views of Russia, past and present, during the upcoming “Table Talk” program. He will also review the fundamental beliefs of the Russian Orthodox Church and the role that the Orthodox Church in America is taking as a partner to the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).

The dinner will feature authentic Russian fare, said Anthony. The meal will be served by the “Levites,” a group of men at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church who love to cook and serve the Lord. This group is headed up by Ben Ward of Heathsville.

There is no charge for the dinner and program. Donations are appreciated. All are welcome to attend and reservations are required. To reserve a seat, call 580-4555.
