ADK presents excellence in service awards

The Gamma Alpha Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) recently honored two outstanding Lancaster Community Library employees with Excellence in Service Awards. This chapter’s members are all teachers from Northumberland and Lancaster counties.

At the January meeting, the Excellence in Education committee, under the direction of chairman Sandy Armstrong, presented the awards to children’s librarian and youth services director Tonya Carter and Storymobile director Ann Rose.`

Both ladies were honored for their many years of service and dedication to the children of Lancaster and Northumberland counties, said Armstrong. They were recognized for the profound impact they have had on the thousands of young children they have introduced to reading through the many programs they direct.`

The award distinguished Carter for her 16 years of service as children’s librarian, expert storyteller for the Lancaster Community Library Story Hour, and her commitment to working with youngsters through the library’s outreach program.`

Rose was honored for her dedication and expertise with the Lancaster Community Storymobile over several years.`

Together, these programs reach over 200 children a week, providing books, crafts and special treats, said Armstrong. During the summer reading program, they serve over 500 children through reading and crafts.`

Carter and Rose graciously accepted their awards in a room filled with many teachers and distinguished guests from the library, including distinguished Board of Directors members Bill Pennell and Barnaby Roberts, as well as library director Lindsy Gardner.
