CASA to raffle two food
and entertainment packages

For the next month, the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA) will sell raffle tickets (each worth more than $425) for food and entertainment offered by Northern Neck venues, according to CASA director Betty Wirth.

A grand prize winner will be drawn for each of two prize packages at 1 p.m. March 6 at the Kilmarnock town hall. Package A has restaurant gift cards, store gift certificate and theater tickets. Package B has an equal value of restaurant gift cards, theater tickets and wine tasting.`

Tickets are $25 for either package, or $40 for a chance on both. Chances of winning are excellent since only 250 tickets will be sold, said Wirth.`

Contact CASA board members, the CASA office at 462 0881, or CASA volunteers for tickets which will be sold through the end of February.`

Restaurant donors are Trick Dog Café, Sandpiper, Walgreens, Café Mojo, KC’s Crabs and Cues, River Market, Luna, Westmoreland Players, Willaby’s, Seven, Bentley’s Grille, Lancaster Tavern, Eckhard’s, Car Wash Café, Arnest Seafood (formally Java Jacks) and wine tasting at Ingleside Winery.`

Northern Neck CASA has served approximately 300 children in its 10 years of advocating for the best interests of children involved in juvenile court proceedings due to abuse and neglect, custody issues, a need for services or supervision, or truancy, said Wirth.`

“CASA is an invaluable resource for the court in addressing issues affecting children” said Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge R. Michael McKenney. “The devoted, well-trained and experienced volunteers ensure that the concerns of children before the court are addressed.”`

As with other nonprofits working to benefit children in this economy, CASA has seen its state funding decrease dramatically in recent years, said Wirth.`

“We look to county government, local foundations, churches, individual donors and fundraisers such as this raffle to fill the void,” she said.
