Boat safety course

Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron will hold a Virginia Boat Safety Course from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. February 12 and 19 at the Northern Neck Family YMCA at 39 William B. Graham Court in Kilmarnock.

There is no cost for the course; however, individuals must register at the YMCA. Upon completion of the course, individuals receive a certificate.  Contact Lisa Shivers at 435-0223, lshivers@peninsulaymca.org, or the YMCA.

Tai Chi

The Northern Neck Family YMCA will hold Tai Chi classes at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning February 5.  Tai Chi is a gentle form of exercises appropriate for all fitness levels.

Classes are free to members and $10 per class for others.

Kids night

Parents may enjoy an evening out February 15 while their kids enjoy a night at the YMCA. Children ages 5-12 may participate in theme-oriented games and crafts, movies and swimming from 6 to 10 p.m.

The fee is $15 for members and $20 for others. Dinner is included. To register, call the YMCA.

Wellness assessment day

The Northern Neck Family YMCA will celebrate Wellness Assessment Day from 9 a.m. to noon February 23, by appointment. Stations will include blood pressure, 3-minute step test for cardio-respiratory endurance, body composition analysis, flexibility test and upper body muscle endurance test.

The assessment is for ages 18 and older. YMCA membership is not necessary. Allow 30 minutes to complete all the stations and wear comfortable clothing to allow for physical movement. For an appointment, call the YMCA.

10K training

The Northern Neck Family YMCA is holding a training sessions for the April 13 Monument Avenue 10K. Get ready with a walking/running program that includes a 10-week training program, organized weekly group run/walks, a YMCA 10K training t-shirt and special training clinics.

The team will gather at the YMCA and run at 8 a.m. Saturdays February 2 through race day. The fee is $35.  Call the YMCA.
