The American Legion Riders of Post 82 in Saluda roll through Tappahannock on a recent ride.

They pursue charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for children’s hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded service members and scholarships.

Since 2006, Riders nationwide have participated in the Legion Legacy Run to annually raise money for the Legacy Scholarship Fund, established to provide scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel killed since September 11, 2001.

The Bristow-Newman-Puller Post 82 American Legion in Saluda has a Riders chapter (ALR-82) comprised of 30 members from various American Legion posts within the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula including Saluda, Kilmarnock, Tappahannock, Reedville and Warsaw.

The ALR-82 members will ride in the Warsaw Christmas Parade December 1 and the Urbanna Christmas Parade December 6.

Over the past three years, ALR-82 has participated in over 125 events, ridden over 140,000 miles, donated over 5,000 volunteer hours, and helped raise over $5,000 in support of national and local charities. Most of the rides have been posted on the group’s Facebook page “Alr Saluda.”

Veterans who reside in the Northern Neck-Middle Peninsula area, eligible for the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of the American Legion, own a motorcycle, and would like to participate, contact Keith “Mac” McAuley at 512-8023, or
