The Devils and Indians are both sporting identical 3-6 overall records and 0-4 records against Northern Neck teams. Northumberland comes off a 62-20 whipping by Rappahannock last week and Lancaster comes off a 42-29 loss to Colonial Beach.

The Devils have put in one good half of football in their last two contests. Lancaster had the opening score off a 27-yard field goal by Jack Kelley in the first quarter against the Drifters and only trailed by five, 20-15, at the half.

Lancaster held a 3-0 edge at the end of the first quarter but Colonial Beach was looking at third and inches at the quarter buzzer and Lucas Lamar scored on a 1-yard carry 40 seconds into the second quarter.

Lancaster answered on the ensuing possession, when Ricky Gibson converted a third and two with a 29-yard scoring pass to Kaliq Noel. The PAT kick by Kelley was blocked and Colonial Beach held a 9-8 lead.

The Drifters went up 20-8 courtesy of a couple of TDs by Shamar Shanks, who scored on a seven-yard run then picked off a Gibson pass late in the quarter and returned it 69 yards for a score.

Lancaster went 60 yards on its final drive of the half with Gibson hitting Tyrell Henderson on a 45-yard pass play to put the Devils at the CB 14. Henderson carried for four yards on the next play and Gibson moved the ball to the five-yard line on a keeper. Gibson scored on a two-yard carry on fourth and goal with 15 seconds to play in the half.

Gibson had a hand in two more touchdowns for LHS in the second half, scoring on a five-yard run in the third and hitting Demetrick Lee on a 37-yard scoring pass in the fourth. Gibson led Lancaster’s rushers with 157 of the Devils’ 189 total yards. He also scored twice and completed 11-of-25 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns.

Colonial Beach only managed 25 yards in the air but gained 219 yards on the ground with Lamar, Shanks, Carter Foster and DezJohn Parker rushing for one TD each. Mike Mothershead scored on a 25-yard reception for the Drifters and Shanks had two TDs including the defensive score.

Carter Bridell led Lancaster’s defenders with 8.5 tackles and Demetrick Lee had seven. Devante Haskins got in on 6.5 take downs.
