LANCASTER—Sheriff’s deputies on Monday responded to a social media posting of a bomb threat at the high school.

Sheriff Ronnie Crockett said an unnamed citizen discovered the posting, which was made January 31, naming Lancaster High School as the target and giving the location of the bomb.

School administrators put the school on lockdown at about 10 a.m. but did not evacuate the building.

“Based on our investigation, we didn’t feel there was a real threat but we wanted to make sure,” said principal Dr. Lori Watrous. Parents were notified of the lockdown by instant alert.

A search of the area identified as the location of the bomb yielded nothing. A bomb detection canine team also conducted a search of the entire school.

“Charges will be filed against a juvenile for making a hoax bomb threat,” said Sheriff Crockett.

The school took immediate and appropriate disciplinary action against the student in this case, said Watrous.
