Running as the LHS 4X800 meter relay team, the girls set a new LHS record with a time of 11:47.

The LHS girls 4X400 meter relay team of Bullock, Towles, Jasmyn Tomlin and Shani Johnson also took first, along with distance runner Mary Frere, who won both the mile and two-mile races, and high jumper Aloni Scott, who won that event.

Last Saturday, coach Joanne Webb-Fary took several competitors to the Panther Track and Field Festival in Bruton, where Frere broke her own record in the mile run with a time of 5:38.77.

Frere, a freshman, is anchoring the LHS girls distance runners, which includes seniors Moira Hull, Dazah Davenport and Elizabeth Robertson and junior Corinna Ireland.

Running middle distance for the Lady Devils are sophomore Towles and freshman Waller.

Freshman Tomlin is a hurdler and runs relays along with Towles, Waller, Bullock and sophomore Johnson. Bullock is also a jumper along with senior Tala Henderson and sophomore Scott.

Scott is also the team’s only sprinter.

Throwing the shot and discus for the girls team this year are senior Aaliyah Morris-Lee, juniors Jamea Smith and Amaya Henderson, sophomores Essence Noel, Keondra Jenkins and Ariana Marsh and freshman Shermya Hudnall.

Boys team

With 32 members, the LHS boys team is among the largest in recent years, according to Webb-Fary.

They won their first meet two weeks ago and finished as the runner-up in last week’s quad at Northumberland.

Last Saturday, the 4X800 team of Travis Boyd, Patrick  Kelley, Sean Jones and Kenique Stewart ran a 9:04.71 race to set a new school record in that event.

Kelley, a sophomore middle distance runner, also won the 800-meter at Northumberland last Thursday with a time of 2:14. Teammate senior Ronnie Cutler was the runner-up in the 800 in 2:20 but anchors Lancaster’s distance runners. Cutler was also the runner-up in the mile race, getting beat out at the finish line by Northumberland’s Billy Pipkin. Pipkin ran a 4:59.1 race and Cutler a 4:59.5, a personal best for both runners. Lancaster’s Travis Boyd was third in 5:29.

Cutler, senior Boyd, junior Sean Jones and sophomores Kenique Stewart and Drew Smith all run distance for LHS.

Lancaster’s middle distance runners include Kelley and freshman Jamil Redmond.

On the short track for the Devils this season are freshmen Marcus Lee and Divaris Redmond, sophomores Ky’Von Clayton, Daryl Gordon and Shyheim Noel, junior Justin Washington and seniors Demetrick Lee and Kaliq Noel.

Washington sprinted to a victory in the 200-meter at Northumberland with a time of 23.78.

Junior Tyrell Henderson led Lancaster in field events, winning both the triple (40’ 10 1/3”) and the long jumps (19’). Also jumping this year for Lancaster are sophomores Trevon Henderson and Deamonte Sutton and Clayton.

Freshman Rodney Wiggins will run the hurdles along with sophomore Devon Kelley, Sutton and Ty. Henderson.

Throwing shot and discus will be seniors Bridell Carter, Beau Nickerson and Devonte Haskins, juniors Clarence Thomas and Timothy McDaniels, sophomores Steven Barksdale, Sam Bouis, Steven Cox, Brandon Hill and Qu-Juan Sutton and freshman Marcus Vick.

Lancaster’s girls and boys track teams will return to Northumberland next Wednesday, April 23, for a four-team meet against Washington & Lee, Essex and Northumberland.

The Indian boys won last week’s quad with a team score of 120 points.

Lancaster does not have any home track meets this season.
