It’s ‘Play Ball’ time at Dreamfields this weekend

Softball and baseball fans can get their fill during three days of non-stop action at Dream Fields near Kilmarnock this week when Lancaster County schools host the 2014 Spring Baseball and Softball Invitational.

Invitational play begins today (April 3) when Lancaster hosts Middlesex at 5 p.m. in both varsity baseball and softball.

Varsity baseball action continues tomorrow (April 4) when Mathews plays Nandua at 4:30 p.m. and King William plays Northumberland at 7 p.m.

On the JV baseball field, King William plays Northumberland at 4:30 p.m. and Lancaster hosts Mathews at 7 p.m.

According to LHS varsity coach Welby Saunders, fans need to keep an eye on Nandua catcher Hunter Taylor, who has committed to play at the University of South Carolina. Categorized as “one of the best defensive catchers in the nation,” by Dynamic Baseball, Taylor was named the MVP of the Perfect Game Junior National Games in San Diego and has played in the Perfect Game World Series in Atlanta.

Also on Friday, Lancaster hosts Mathews in varsity softball at 5 p.m. and Middlesex plays Rappahannock County at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, April 5, games begin at 10 a.m. with Lancaster Middle School’s baseball and softball teams both playing Northumberland.

At 10:30 a.m., Lancaster plays Rappahannock County in varsity softball. Varsity softball games continue at 1 p.m. with Rappahannock County playing Mathews and at 3:30 p.m. when Mathews plays Middlesex.

In JV softball, Lancaster plays Mathews at 1 p.m., Mathews plays Middlesex at 3 p.m. and Lancaster plays Middlesex at 5 p.m.

On the varsity baseball field, Nandua meets King William at 12:30 p.m. and Lancaster faces Mathews at 3 p.m. Middlesex plays Northumberland at 5:30 p.m.

On the JV baseball field, it’s King William versus Washington & Lee at 12:30 p.m. and Northumberland plays Mathews at 3 p.m. Lancaster caps tourney play at 5:30 p.m. against Middlesex.
