Lancaster relay teams
set the pace statewide

Lancaster’s boys and girls relay teams won with flair last Saturday at the West Point Invitational Track Meet.

The 400-meter boys team of Kaliq Noel, Tyrell Henderson, Trevon Henderson and Sean Jones posted the best time this season among Group 1A schools statewide, 3:42.89, to win that race and beat out larger school divisions Armstrong, Thomas Dale and Dinwiddie.

Lancaster’s girls 4X800-meter team of Zykheia Bullock, Elizabeth Robertson, Vilesha Waller and Mary Frere won with a time of 11:14.16, the top Group 1A time in the state and an LHS record-breaker.

The 800-meter boys team of Jones, Travis Boyd, Ronnie Cutler and Kenique Stewart ran a 9:01.12 to win the event and set a new LHS record.

Boys meet

The Red Devils won three events in boys competition, including the two relays, to finish with 82 points for second place. Thomas Dale won the 12-team meet with 94 points, while Cumberland was third with 79 and Essex fourth with 78.

Ty Henderson was the top scorer for Lancaster with 29 points. Henderson won the boys triple jump with a 41’ 10 1/2” leap and was the runner-up in the 300 hurdles (41.86). He also finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.98), fifth in the long jump (19’9”) and ran a leg of the 800-meter relay.

Noel was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash (53.33) and Tr. Henderson cleared 5’10” as the runner-up in the high jump.

Noel also scored for Lancaster in the 100-meter dash with a sixth-place finish at 11.77.

Also on the short track, Demetrick Lee tied for third in the 100-meter dash (11.52) and placed eighth in the 200-meter (24.37).

In middle distance and distance events, Cutler finished fifth in the mile (5:06.81) and seventh in the 800-meter (2:27.32).

Jones took sixth in the 800-meter (2:20.44) and Drew Smith finished seventh in the mile (5:16.56).

Girls meet

Frere continues to dominate in distance events, winning the mile at 5:39.12. Robertson also scored in the 1,600-meter for the Lady Devils. She finished sixth in 7:04.32.

Moira Hull was third in the two-mile (17:13.62) and Dazah Davenport was fourth (18:05.61).

Lancaster also got scoring from Tala Henderson, who cleared 4’6” for fifth in the high jump, and from Jolena Towles, who was seventh in the 400-meter dash with a 1:08.76.

Lancaster’s 4X400-meter relay team of Bullock, Waller, Towles and Shani Johnson placed third with at 4:47.33.

The Lady Devils finished seventh of 12 teams in the girls meet with a score of 45 points. Thomas Dale won the meet with 134 points, while Armstrong was second with 83 and host West Point third with 68.
