Special events have included a volunteer symposium, a presentation on trees by author Nancy Ross Hugo, an annual meeting that featured 2014 Pulitzer Prize history winner Alan Taylor and a Memorial Day service, reported publicity chairman Marilyn Hedges. These events were in addition to the daily tours, research of colonial Virginia, and other activities that make Christ Church an important part of the Northern Neck.

On July 19, the Foundation for Historic Christ Church will host a “Raise the Roof” Craft Beer Fest. The festival will help raise funds for the preservation and repair of the 1897 slate roof of the 1735 church, said Hedges.

The event, from 4 to 8 p.m., will feature barbecue from Savannah Joe’s in Kilmarnock, music by James Justin & Co. and 12 craft beers. Tickets are $30 and also will cover a souvenir glass and four craft beer tasting tickets and tours, she said.

The Dog & Oyster Vineyard will provide libations for those who prefer wine. Non-alcoholic beverages also will be available.

Sponsors include Connemara Corporation, Burke’s Fine Jewelers, and the Dog & Oyster Vineyard of the Hope and Glory Inn.

A tent will ensure the beer fest will be held, rain or shine, said Hedges. Attendees are urged to bring chairs and identification.

Tickets may be purchased at christchurch1735.org, by mail at P.O. Box 24, Irvington, VA, 22480, by email at info@christchurch1735.org and at Christ Church, 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.
