“We’ve got a record number of vendors signed up to come,” said market manager Corinne Anthony.

In addition to farm-fresh produce, shoppers will find honey, free-range heritage breed pork, hand-thrown pottery, colorful clothing items, handmade soaps and creams, funky macrame jewelry, upscale beaded jewelry and handcrafted Windsor chairs, said Anthony. Artists will be at work at their easels.

“Plein Air Paint-Out” is the theme of the market, she added.

“The term ‘plein air’ refers to setting up an easel and painting outdoors,” said Anthony. “A number of local artists will be scattered across the field, painting Farmers Market scenes.”

At 9:30 a.m., “Marley the Tavern Horse” will be dedicated. Several local students and their parents will be honored for painting the life-size horse statue that now graces the entrance to the Carriage House, sheltering the Tavern’s antique carriage collection.

An historical walking tour of Heathsville’s Town Square will start at 10:15 a.m. Docents will leave from in front of the Transportation Museum Building and guide participants through the old jail, the old courthouse and the Tavern.

An historic landmark since the 1700s, Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern is home to four active artisan guilds, which will all be demonstrating and selling their wares. This includes the Blacksmiths, the Woodworkers, the Quilters and the Spinners and Weavers.

The Tavern Quilt Guild will sell raffle tickets for two hand-quilted replica Civil War “Cot Quilts.”

The Spinners and Weavers Guild will host an official site for “Worldwide Knit in Public Day.” Donations of yarn for charity knitting will be accepted.

Breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue and beverages will be on sale. The Tavern Restaurant is open for sit-down lunch and dinner. Call 580-7900 for reservations.
