Gaskins brothers earn Eagle Scout

Casey William Gaskins and Joseph Earl Gaskins, sons of Jeff and Linda Gaskins of Burgess, each received their Eagle Scout Award in a ceremony at Coan Baptist Church on June 14.

Casey is a 2014 graduate of Northumberland High School. Joey is a rising senior at Northumberland High School. They join their brother Frank as an Eagle Scout.

Casey is an assistant scoutmaster, and Joey is a junior assistant scoutmaster in Troop 250 chartered to the Northumberland County YMCA in Heathsville, reported Scoutmaster Bob Parker.

Casey’s scouting accomplishments include 30 merit badges, 74 nights camping, 122 miles hiking and over 80 hours of community service. His Eagle Scout project was the construction of a bridge on the Northumberland County Public Schools Nature Trail with grant funds provided by the Hickory Ground Foundation, said Parker.

While a troop member, Casey served as troop librarian for four years. He earned the World Conservation Award and is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.

He also participated in band, cross country, wrestling, drama and forensics at Northumberland High School. He will attend Regent University in the fall to study theater arts.

Joey’s scouting accomplishments include 24 merit badges, 82 nights camping, 114 miles hiking and over 90 hours of community service. His Eagle Scout Project was a Veteran’s Memorial at Coan Baptist Church, said Parkler.

Joey has served Troop 250 as an assistant senior patrol leader, bugler and patrol leader. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow.

He also participated on the forensics and wrestling teams. Joey is active in the Northumberland High School JROTC, on the track and cross country teams, and is in the marching band. He hopes to attend the U.S. Military Academy at West Point after graduation in 2015, said Parker.

For their accomplishments, Casey and Joey received the Marine Corps League Good Citizen Award, a commendation from the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates, resolutions of recognition from the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors, Rep. Robert Wittman and President Barrack Obama, said Parker.
