The concert, which also includes the Lancaster Middle and High School Jazz Bands, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, at the LMS Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock.

Admission is $5. Proceeds will go to the Lancaster Band Boosters.

“While we always include traditional swing-era music, we also try to do some things that people wouldn’t hear us do at a typical big band dance,” said director Kenny Flester. “We’ve had a lot of fun getting these songs ready, and except for one song, we’ve never performed any of these before, so I think the audience will have a great time.”

The Northern Neck Big Band has been around for a very long time, under the direction of several local musicians, including Brainard Edmonds, Norwood McCarty and Glen Burtner.

“My grandfather, Buster Flester, actually played in this band many years ago, so it’s an honor for me to be a part of it now,” said Flester.
