The Damerons have lived in Lewisetta since 1973, reported parade co-coordinator Ginny Pugh. Warren Dameron, a Callao native, moved to Washington, D.C., after graduating from high school. He met Virginia Dameron, born and raised in the D.C. area, and they married in 1942.

The first time he brought her to see Callao, recalls Virginia Dameron,“We went up a hill, down a hill. Warren asked me how I liked it. I said what?”

When he retired from the D.C. police force, they hurried back to Lewisetta and the water, said Pugh. Both have celebrated their 90th birthdays and are a wonderful addition to the Lewisetta Community.

Representatives of Final Salute will be the special honored guests, continued Pugh. Final Salute is an organization dedicated to helping women Veterans who have fallen on hard times.

Final Salute has assisted over 100 women with safe and suitable housing while focusing on integrating them back into their communities, she said. This includes job training and placement, financial planning, education support, counseling and child care subsidies.

“We are proud to be able to present Final Salute to the Northern Neck,” said Pugh.

Other units will include a Marine Corps League color guard, fire departments, rescue squads and handcrafted floats. Awards will be presented after the parade. While waiting for the judges to announce their decisions, George Washington will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

The committee extends an invitation for everyone to enjoy the parade, she said.
