The bands have had a relationship going back several years, noted Christopher Taylor. The Kilmarnock band has joined Winchester on occasion for their Apple Blossom Parade which is one of the biggest parades nationwide.

“This will be the first time Winchester has come here and we hope it will not be the last,” said Taylor.

The parade, from Crockett’s Landing and along King Carter Drive to Irvington Road, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, July 4. The lineup also will feature grand marshal Alex Fleet, guest of honor retired U.S. Navy Lt. Paul Galanti, the mayor and town officials, children on bicycles, antique cars, Shriner units and decorated golf carts.

Both bands wear the Gordon Regimental tartan but can be distinguished by their stockings—Winchester with red and white diced hose, Kilmarnock with red and green, he said.

The Kilmarnock band is seeking men and women to learn bagpiping. Age is no barrier to learning; instruction and materials are provided.
