This photograph of a heron by Bob Coles will be featured in a 35-image exhibit at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury during August.

Coles grew up in Ophelia and has lived in the Richmond area since the early 1960s, reported resident life services coordinator Maria Ferrand. Coles is a retired business owner and real estate consultant and has been interested in photography since the late 1950s.

Photography fits in nicely with his other hobbies, bird watching and travel. Coles and his wife, Gena, now live at Westminster Canterbury (WCR) in Richmond. His sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John Cowart, were residents at RWC for many years.

Coles’ work has been exhibited around central Virginia and published in newspapers and corporate brochures. He is a founding member of the Focus Group Camera Club in 1989 and is still an active member. His club had an exhibit at WRC in May 1998 that included 11 of his images.

He serves on the board of LHSA, The international Leica Society and is an active member of both the Rotary Club of Innsbrook and the Richmond Audubon Society.

This 35-image exhibit includes a broad range of subjects including landscapes, wildlife and urban images, said Ferrand. Several images are from two recent outings on the James River near Richmond photographing bald eagles, osprey and great blue herons.
