several waterfront activities

The Deltaville Farmers’ Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 23, at the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park, 287 Jackson Creek Road, Deltaville.

Billz Bistro, on-site, opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast and usually serves a market day menu of sandwiches by 9:45 a.m., reports events director Bill Powell.

Some 50 vendors will offer produce, goat cheese, eggs, artisan bread, honey, beef, Greek pastries, art, jewelry, crafts, quilts, soaps, oyster floats, wool items, rain harvesting equipment and leather belts, said Powell.

The museum will open at 9 a.m., including a John M. Barber exhibit of 58 original paintings, watercraft and history exhibits, he said.

The F. D. Crockett will be open for tours. The Explorer society will offer creek trips on the Captain John Smith replica shallop Explorer and motor cruises on a deadrise, said Powell. Cruises and tours begin around 10 a.m.

A crab shedding tank with live crabs, crab pots and oyster tonging exhibits are also open to the public, he added.
