Coach Kathryn Gregory

The team will be led by founder Kathryn Gregory, a coach for 15 years and competitor for 28. At the 2008 U.S. Masters Swimming Convention in Atlanta, Gregory was awarded the Kerry O’Brien National Award for entrepreneurial effort and coaching excellence.

Gregory also was featured in the March-April 2010 issue of USMS SWIMMER, the official magazine of U.S. Masters Swimming.

The masters program is for adult swimmers, ages 18 and older, desiring a regular, structured workout which incorporates stroke technique, aerobic fitness, flexibility and strength training, fun exercises and team camaraderie, said Gregory. Participation in competitive events is not required, but skills for races are included. The ability to swim 50 yards, or two pool lengths without stop, plus the ability to continue swimming after that for an hour, with rest periods, is required for participation.

“If you are thinking about improving your fitness while becoming a better swimmer, this is an opportunity which may be right for you,” said Gregory.

Practice times are 7 to 8:30 a.m. and 8:45 to 10 a.m. Tuesdays and 7 to 8:30 a.m. Thursdays. An informal practice session is held at 8 a.m. Saturdays. Written workout sheets are available for missed practices.

To join, visit the YMCA or call 435-0223.
