Stars of Tomorrow tourney
under way at Dream Fields

The annual Stars of Tomorrow Baseball and Softball Tournament returns to Dream Fields this week when 22 teams from the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and as far away as Newport News compete.

Some 39 games will be played in four days, according to tournament director Welby Saunders. In the baseball tournament, there are three 8U teams, seven 10U teams and eight 12U teams. Four 10U teams will compete in the softball tournament.

Participation has increased so much for the baseball tournament, an extra play day had to be added, said Saunders. Baseball action started last night (August 6) with 10U games and continues tonight (August 7) with 12U games at 6 p.m. when Northumberland plays Denbigh and Lancaster hosts Essex. Also in 12U action at 8 p.m., Lancaster faces Denbigh and Northumberland takes on Essex.

Seven baseball games will be played tomorrow (August 8) beginning at 6 p.m. with 12 U teams King William playing Gloucester and Westmoreland taking on Mathews. Also at 6 p.m. in 10U competition, King William will play Lancaster.

At 8 p.m., 12U action continues with Gloucester playing Westmoreland and King William facing Mathews. Also at 8 p.m., Mathews plays King William in 10U baseball and Lancaster hosts Northumberland in 8U baseball.

On Saturday, August 9, games will be held throughout the day for all age brackets with 10U games being determined based on pool play.

In 8U action at noon, Northumberland will play Richmond County. Also at noon in 12U play, Lancaster plays host to Northumberland. At 2 p.m., Gloucester will play Mathews, Essex will play Denbigh and King William faces Westmoreland, all in 12U action. In 8U play at 2 p.m., Lancaster hosts Richmond County.

The baseball championship games in the 12U gold, silver, bronze and copper brackets all begin at 4 p.m.

The 10U softball tournament action begins Friday, August 8, when Lancaster will take on Mathews and Richmond County will play Essex. Both games are at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, August 9, softball games continue with Lancaster hosting Essex at 10 a.m. and Mathews facing Richmond County at noon. At 2 p.m., Essex will play Mathews and at 4 p.m., Richmond County meets Lancaster.
