Lady Devils fall, 58-47

George Mason successfully defended its Group A Division 2 state title Saturday, beating Lancaster, 58-47, in the girls championship at VCU’s Siegel Center in Richmond.

In one of its lowest scoring games of the season, Lancaster shot just 31 percent from the field and hit only 2-of-9 three point attempts. Just press play to catch the action!

It was Lancaster’s second trip to the Group A championship game in three years. The Mustangs of Fairfax eliminated the Lady Devils in last year’s semifinal game. Avenging the loss wasn’t in the cards for Lancaster, which finished its season at 20-2 .

The Lady Devils held an early, but shortlived lead. Nicole Mitchell sank a three-pointer for the Mustangs three minutes into the first quarter to give GM the lead for good. The Mustangs took a 17-10 first quarter lead and went up 36-22 at the half.

Chantal Thomas scored 18 points and Nicole Mitchell 13 to lead George Mason.

Lancaster’s Andrea White, who averages more than 27 points per game, was held to 17. Jasmine Moody stepped up for 15 points for the Lady Devils and Ashley Ransome added 11.
