Skydivers to drop in
for Irvington Stomp

Visitors to the Irvington Stomp at White Fences Vineyard on Saturday will want to look to the sky.

A West Point Skydiving Adventures plane will take off from Topping, fly over Irvington, and skydivers will jump from several thousand feet to the vineyard below.

“It should be pretty spectacular,” said White Fences owner Bill Westbrook. “We’re putting out a small target in the middle of the Stomp and the skydiver who lands on the bulls-eye wins a case of Meteor wine. Last year one of the guys hit it smack on.”

West Point Skydiving Adventures’ owner Jim Crouch said hitting a small target shouldn’t be a problem for experienced skydivers. “These folks have made hundreds of jumps and know their stuff. It should be quite a show.”

In addition to skydiving, the event will feature Robbin Thompson in concert, dog agility demonstrations and hayrides, face painting, crab races and lots of grape stomping. Food will be available from Stingray’s.

“This Stomp is our harvest celebration. Right after Labor Day we’ll get down to serious harvesting and all the work that goes into that. Right now we want to celebrate our blessings with family, friends and visitors,” he said.

The Irvington Stomp will be held from 3 p.m. to dusk at White Fences Vineyard in Irvington. Tickets at the gate are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6 to 16. Kids under 6 are free.
