Mary and the Janes at the Chesapeake Bay Wine Festival

Led by singer/songwriter MJ Anderson, Mary and the Janes is a mix of local artists with varied backgrounds in musical styles, according to band member Susan Johnson. The combined sound is edgy acoustic rock with bluesy undertones all laid over a driving groove.

Joining Anderson are Rodney Bray, Mark Favazza, Jerry Brockman, Irvin Moubray, Troy Wolfrey and Johnson. They will perform original songs written by Anderson, Favazza, Johnson and Bray. Joining the band for two songs will be violinist Linda Soukup, who is featured on two of the tracks on the CD.

Singer/songwriter and local physician Jim Wright will be the opening act. Wright has played in venues from Atlanta to Richmond, said Johnson. His music is at times socially aware and other times just plain fun, including songs about immigration reform, public access to the Rappahannock River and love.

Tickets are $5. Tickets may be purchased in advance at myspace.com/maryandthejanes, or from Mary and the Janes band members. CDs will be available for purchase at the party for $10 or from iTunes, napster, amazon and myspace.

CDs also may be available from maryandthejanesmusic@gmail.com, or call Johnson at 436-2204.
