This year 14 organizations benefited though many more had sought funds. The sale netted $37,000, but local groups’ requests totaled $104,535.

“Unfortunately, the yard sale proceeds, unlike the proverbial fishes and loafs, could not be multiplied to meet all the needs, and with the many worthy groups seeking help it made the choices for the church vestry all the harder,” said church member Jamie Stalnaker.

The Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Neck will receive $2,000 for computers for its technology center; Connect Rappahannock, $1,000 for its community outreach plan; the Haven Shelter, $5,500 to support services; Hospice Support Services, $2,000 for medical alarm services; Lancaster Community Library, $2,500 for a computer server; and Lancaster-Northumberland Habitat for Humanity, $2,000 towards infrastructure for three home developments.

Also, Macedonia Baptist Church, $2,600 for its Girls Empowerment Camp; Northern Neck Family YMCA, $3,500 for its Wiley Center Guardian Program; Northern Neck Free Clinic, $4,840 for an INR patient monitor and medical supplies; Partners for Lancaster County Schools Fund, $500 for engineering and development costs; SAIF Water Wells, $1,360 for small water treatment systems for local wells; Shiloh Community Ministries, $5,700 for its “Super 19” program and Missoula Children’s Theater; Smart Beginnings Northumberland-Lancaster, $1,500 for four training forums for parents and teachers; and YMCA Camp Keboka, $2,000 for a shade and art structure.

The yard sale is a service to the community by members of Grace Episcopal Church with over 100 volunteers working each year, said Stalnaker. Since 2002, some $300,000 has been donated to local charities, she said.
