Sunday programs
The Lancaster Community Library’s 17th annual Sundays at Two lecture and entertainment series will continue February 12 with professor Diana Obeid’s program on “Women in Islam.” The program will begin at 2 p.m. at the library at 235 School Street in Kilmarnock. Programs continue March 4 with Patrick Anderson on “Best Crime WritersHow do you choose?” and March 11 with Frans Kasteel on “Growing up in Occupied Holland during World War II.” Band night Red Devil Band Night will continue on the second Thursday of every month at Sal’s Pizza in Kilmarnock. Sal’s will donate 10% of all revenue generated on Red Devil Band Night to the Lancaster High School Band. Burns Night The Kilmarnock and District Pipe Band will host its 13th annual Burns Night Supper at 5:30 p.m. February 11 at the White Stone Event Center. The event to celebrate the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns will feature music by the band’s pipes, drums and other musicians, Scottish fare and an Immortal Toast. Tickets are $35 each. Tickets are on sale at Chesapeake Bank in Kilmarnock, the Bank of Lancaster main branch in Kilmarnock and White Stone branch and The Local in Irvington. Music series The Bena music series will continue at 8 p.m. February 11 with Blue Line Highway at Bena Country Store at 8835 Guinea Road in Hayes. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7.50 for ages 13 to 18 and college students with ID. Calico Jack Calico Jack will present a concert from 7 to 9 p.m. February 11 at Festival Halle at 177 Main Street in Reedville. The fee is $8 per person; coffee and snacks included. Floral arranging The Episcopal Church Women of Farnham Episcopal Church will offer a flower-arranging workshop at 10 a.m. February 10 at the church on North Farnham Road. Love luncheon A Valentine’s Day Luncheon will be held for caregivers and their loved ones with dementia from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. February 12 at the Middlesex County Family YMCA at 11487 General Puller Highway in Hartfield. Roast beef dinner Noted musical director and Julia Childs “look alike” Carolyn Jett will orchestrate a roast beef dinner on behalf of Fairfields United Methodist Church in Burgess February 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission will be by donation. The menu will include roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, string beans, rolls, dessert and beverage. Proceeds will support Nelia Tingle Fellowship group outreach programs. Vegetable gardening Middlesex Master Gardeners will host “Spade to Soup: Vegetable Gardening 101” at 9:30 a.m. February 18 at the Cook’s Corner County Office Building at 2911 General Puller Highway in Cook’s Corner. Dr. Wayne Moyer, an active James City County Master Gardener, will lead the program. Student drama The Lancaster Middle School Drama Club will present “Toy Story” February 17, 18 and 19 at the LMS Theater in Kilmarnock. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. Scout lasagna A lasagna dinner fundraiser for an Eagle Scout Project will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. February 18 at Wicomico United Methodist Church in Wicomico Church. The meal will include lasagna, salad, bread, tea or coffee, and dessert. The fee is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 10. Eat in or take out. Serving spaghetti The Knights of Columbus will serve a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. February 18 at De Sales Hall on Church Street in Kilmarnock. The menu will include spaghetti with meat sauce, salad, bread and dessert. Meatless sauce will be available. Beverages include coffee, tea, milk and lemonade. Donations at the door will be $10 for adults. Children ages 10 and younger eat free. Takeouts also will be available. Winterstack2 Winterstack2 February 25 at Festival Halle in Reedville will feature Throwin’ Wake and Sweet Justice. Admission is $20 per person; must be age 21 or older. Tickets are available at Lilian Lumber Home Center in Burgess, Noblett’s Appliance in Kilmarnock and the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, or call 453-6529. Hake fish breakfast Calvary Baptist Church Men’s Ministry in Kilmarnock will hold an all-you-can-eat hake fish breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. February 18. The menus will include hake fish, fried potatoes and onions, fried apples, eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, orange juice and coffee, The requested donation is $15. American experience The Mary Ball Washington Museum and Library will host a public lecture at 11 a.m. February 18 at the Lancaster Middle School Theater in Kilmarnock. Dr. Charles M. Christian, author of Black Saga: A Chronology of the African American Experience, will present “Your Role in the American Experience.” Pancake supper White Stone United Methodist Church will hold its annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper from 5 to 7 p.m. February 21. The dinner includes all you can eat pancakes, sausage patties, baked apples and beverages. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children. Purchase tickets from church members, or call 435-3555. Proceeds will support the United Methodist Endorsing Agency for the purchase of phone cards for those in military service. One card supplies 120 minutes for $4.95. A service of ashes will follow the supper at 7:30 p.m. Better care The Richmond County panel on foster care will conduct an informational session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. February 28 at Rappahannock Community College in Warsaw. FAPT, Court Services Unit and Education will be featured. To encourage more effective use of resources and outcome for children, the panel is sponsoring five informational programs in 2012 to educate agency personnel, service providers, volunteers, and citizens on ways the community can cooperate to decrease use of foster care and support better outcomes for children. Photo exhibit sWorks by Northern Neck Computer Users Group Photography Special Interest Group members will be on exhibit through February at the Lancaster Community Library in Kilmarnock. The group uses Adobe editing software to modify and enhance photographs. |
