Racing on the Rivah
Peace, quiet and tranquility are all treasured elements of life on the Rivah. Many who come here do so with the intention of getting back to nature, or escaping the hectic pace of an urban existence. Some of us, however, crave the occasional infusion of speed, intensity and burning rubber into our regular diet of rest and relaxation. (June 24, 2008)

Steptoe's First Friday Walkabout
Join the celebration in Kilmarnock every first Friday of the month. Dance to live music, enjoy local shops and restaurants, see the new artwork in the local galleries or just stroll the streets. Shell Planting
Each spring the VMRC conducts projects to fortify oyster reefs in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. This year they planted about 300,000 bushels of oyster shells in total. As you will see in this video, that's no easy feat. site location (June 4, 2008)

Blessing of the Fleet: Reedville, VA
Following an ancient tradition performed in fishing communities across the globe, residents of the Northern Neck performed their own Blessing of the Fleet ceremony in Reedville, VA marking the start of the fishing season on the Chesapeake Bay. (May 13, 2008)

Watermen's Last Stand
The Northern Neck Waterman's Association met in Kilmarnock, VA last week to discuss potential litigation against the Commonwealth of Virginia for failing to adhere to federal mandates to clean the Chesapeake bay by 2010. Watermen have long suffered the brunt of the blame (mostly via increased regulations) for the state of the bay. (April 17, 2008)

New Crab Regulations: VMRC Public Hearing
The Virginia Marine Resource Commission approved sweeping cutbacks to the state's crab harvest, targeting a 34% reduction. The public hearing was very well attended by supporters and opponents alike. Hear their comments! (April 29, 2008)
